Mark Watterson (Manx Blue in Oz)

The news surrounding Dave left me deeply saddened and has prompted me to post again on The Peoples Forum after a year break during which I have moved to the other side of the world.

I am one of the fortunate souls who did manage to meet and enjoy some quality banter with Dave. Despite my initial reservations about the man, he proved to be an absolute diamond.

My abiding recollection will be the day we swapped tickets before the 2002 tin mine derby where Anelka had cancelled out an earlier Tommy Radzinski shin bobbler.

I had managed to secure a Kop ticket a week or so before the game but desperately wanted to avoid sitting there again after a couple of dodgy experiences in the past. Fortunately through TPF Dave offered up an Anfield Road (away) ticket in exchange for mine and we arranged to meet outside the ground. True to his word, he was there. For two hours before the game and long into the night following the game we exchanged calls & messages on all things Red & Blue.

Top bloke, top Red & absolute loon.

You’ll be missed fella.

Still hard to believe he's gone. Despite the fact he was a red, not to mention an ofttimes stubborn and infutriating one, Dave was the quintessence of the people's forum and its predecessors, his contributions and quick-wittedness second to none, not to mention his lovely 'tache!

RIP mate, you'll never be forgotten.

May you rest in peace Dave. Good luck with the big Kop in the sky. I hope your boys win every week for you.

I think it speaks volumes for the affection and respect most of the posters on here had for Dave that the news brought this forum to a complete standstill particularly after a decent win for Everton. I can’t think of a forum of any persuasion that would do that. It was that much of a shock.

I’ve been lurking and posting on here in various guises for about five or six years and this forum has always been at it’s liveliest when DD ‘went off on one’, some classic stuff indeed. My two recent favourites where the ambulance incident and whether LFC where going to be admitted into the Champs League last season.

I never really got to the bottom of why he spent so much time on here but that time was entertaining to say the least, that’s not to say there weren’t occasions when you wanted to put your foot through the monitor!

But that was Dave, fiercely loyal to his cause. I could think of a few epitaphs for Dave, from Muaaaaaaaaah, or 18:5 right through to ‘Dancing Dave R.I.P. – HE NEVER GAVE AN INCH’

Condolences to all Dave’s friends and family.

God bless Dave

RIP

I remember Dave as one of the first people on this forum back in around 1998. His intelligent, funny and at times vicious comments could get the forum going like no one else. When the Reds got a beating he would not hide, he would out with both barrels firing. This was your last flounce Dave and I will miss you. Say hi to Shanks and Bob. Floridablue

May there be a place in heaven where Dancing Dave will find peace and happiness.

Many of us are sad
but up there Dave will watch football blue or red.

it speaks volumes that so many on the peoples forum, that didn't even met the man once, would be so saddened by dancer's passing.

a complete loon, but despite being 'one of them', was indeed 'one of us'.

my deepest sympathies to Dave's friends and family.

he'll no doubt be 'pffffting' away with emlyn right now...

r.i.p. Dave. good night and god bless.

Nick.

When I first encountered Dave I thought we may cross swords but surprisingly quite the opposite.Dave told me he thought I defended our clubs supporters in a fashion that he would of given what has happened over the years.
A form of mutual respect developed with football values at the core.He would tell me fooball is finished as we wanted it to be and this coming from a supporter of a team who win cups every year it seems now and have street parties in May.Sure he would defend his club with banter but what a foil he was to any Blue that did not now the score.
I'd like to think Dave is having one big street party now with all the other football supporters and family that has gone from us .
Dave has left a good mark with so many people ,respect to the guy who lost his war but many battles before he did not lose.
Dave will be sadly missed, the ackolades given to the man from the other side on our Everton forum is a rare and special thing. But there again Dave was a special man .
Sincere condolences to all of Dave's family and friends.
Ian
